GEORGETOWN -- With an abnormally pleasant, but much welcomed, warm front moving through the city on Saturday, luck was with D.C. residents in more ways than one as Chance for Life took over Georgetown’s historic City Tavern Club for its sixth annual charity event.

Inspired by the story of Kennedy Snyder, a happy, social kid who was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor at the age of two, Chance for Life is an annual benefit designed to raise both awareness and funds in the fight against pediatric spinal cord cancer.

Pictures of Kennedy were lovingly scattered throughout the City Tavern Club.

An all-day celebration, the weekend’s festivities began with a sold-out poker tournament ($250 buy-in) where more than 200 players vied (Las Vegas Complete rules) for the shot at a $10,000 seat in this year’s World Series of Poker.

Friends and family then joined the tournament ticketholders at 8:00 p.m. for a crowded after-party, which started out with an elegant wine and champagne tasting affair featuring more than 15 different wines from various international vintners, including Argentina’s Michel Torino and Spain’s Anna de Codorniu.

Tables full of wine and champagne filled the rooms on the second floor of the venue.

Plied with good food (specifically paired to complement each featured wine or champagne) and bubbly, guests proceeded to dance the night away inside the venue’s Great Hall to the music of the Doug Segree Band.

The Doug Segree Band kept the crowd dancing until 1:00 am.

For the city’s risk takers, the event was just about the closest thing to a sure thing they had seen in a long time!

Cheers to Kennedy!
