Chico Mann sings; the audience swings at the W, Washington, D.C.
NORTHWEST -- Fresh from a sold-out show at the
9:30 club, fans of Nigerian afro-beat musician
Femi Kuti stormed the White House-adjacent doors to the
W, Washington, D.C. on Saturday night, for the official after party co-hosted by
Brightest Young Things and
ESL Music.
Held on arguably the city’s most talked-about rooftop deck at
P.O.V, the late-night party kicked-off with an opening DJ set by
KC of
Fatback fame at 10:00p.m.
The line to the hotel’s bank of elevators stretched across the building’s modern lobby area from the get-go, with revelers clever enough to arrive early spending the time before the show sampling from the lounge and terrace’s recently
updated cocktail menu.
Chico Mann took the reigns of the DJ booth promptly at 11:00p.m. and delivered a solid hour-long set that blended elements of hip-hop, funk, soul, and salsa that kept the crowd keyed up and dancing the entire time.
For those who missed out on Saturday’s show, “W Happenings” is a once-a-month series of events that invites Washingtonians in to the hotel to experience the hospitality of the W. Although word on the street is that the next concert at the W might take place a bit earlier than expected…
Keep your Saturday night free. Hint, hint…
