Ziggy Marley headlined Fight For Children's School Night 2011 celebration.
NORTHWEST -- Reform is never easy and education reform in particular has represented one of the country’s biggest challenges in recent years. The success of
Fight For Children’s fundraising efforts is therefore all the more spectacular given such obstacles. Indeed, the numbers speak for themselves: More than $450 million raised or leveraged since 1990 for education and healthcare programs serving low-income children in the District.
FOX5 news anchor Steve Chenevey hosted this year’s gala.
The organization’s signature annual ‘School Night’ gala has contributed significantly to such initiatives over the years and more than 500 supporters flocked to the
Ronald Reagan Building on Friday evening for the 2011 rendition of the event.
Boasting a Caribbean theme, complete with a matching buffet, cocktail menu, and party favors, this year’s spring benefit was hosted by
FOX5 Morning News anchor
Steve Chenevey and featured performances by the DC Pan Jammers and New Century Dance companies.
However, the event’s biggest draw by far – beyond recognizing those schools who won the organization’s 2011 Quality Schools Initiative Award – was an hour-long, end-of-night performance by
Ziggy Marley, who had guests dancing and singing in the aisles until the very end.
Winners of Fight For Children’s 2011 Quality Schools Initiative Award were cheered.
Among the VIPs we spotted tapping their toes that evening were Fight For Children founder
Joe Robert, Jr., Jamaican
Ambassador Audrey P. Marks (also the event’s chair),
Venturehouse Group founder
Mark Ein, and former D.C. mayor
Adrian Fenty.

Her Excellency Audrey P. Marks, Ambassador of Jamaica.
Love might be Ziggy’s religion, but education and health care is clearly that of Fight For Children.
