WEST END -- A sea of pink ran through
The Colonnade restaurant at
The Fairmont, Washington, D.C. on Tuesday evening, for the third annual
Newsbabes Bash for Breast Cancer.
Two hundred survivors and supporters came together for last night’s fundraiser – all clad appropriately in various shades and forms of pink – with the end goal being to help raise breast cancer awareness in the District, while simultaneously raising funds for the
Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure.
Each $100 ‘pink ticket’ bought guests access to a variety of themed signature cocktails (e.g., the ‘Pink Coconut’, the ‘Pink Berry’, and the ‘Nuvotini’), as well as a buffet of light hors d’oeuvres and plenty of ribbon-topped
Georgetown Cupcakes.
DC101 DJ 'Flounder' spun an upbeat soundtrack for attendees; jokingly asking only for a photo of himself with WJLA's
Alison Starling in return.

“We need to educate young women that they don’t need to spend their lives living in fear,” said Representative Wasserman Schultz. “…That they need to be familiar enough with their own breast health…so that they know when something feels different.”
Addressing the crowd of supporters, she concluded: “As a survivor, from the bottom of my heart…thank you so much. On to the victory that we know we will one day achieve when we stomp out breast cancer!”
