David Marriott and Congressman Jim Moran give the new Renaissance Arlington Capital View hotel a definitive thumbs up!
ARLINGTON, Va. -- With the roads surrounding Potomac Street filled with hotels of all shapes and sizes, how’s a newly constructed entrant suppose to stand out?
Well, if you’re a member of the
Marriott family of lodging properties and your goal is to inspire, then you build an award-winning new building -- boasting plenty of fancy technological and design credentials (Silver LEED-certified, “green” roof, kinetic wood sculptures, etc.) -- and throw a heck of an opening party!
And party they did last night at the
Renaissance Arlington Capital View on the 28th block of South Potomac Avenue in Arlington, for the hotel’s official launch celebration.
Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA) and
David Marriott (the youngest son of the hospitality giant’s namesake) were but two of the VIPs who turned out for Thursday evening’s exclusive “jet set” opening.
Recalling a conversation he had with longtime friend
Kathleen Matthews (wife of
Hardball host
Chris Matthews) about why she left her job as co-anchor of ABC 7 News to join Marriott as an executive, Representative Moran relayed her response: “It’s because they are such good people… They always put people first.”
Moran continued by saying, “This is a tribute to the Marriott corporation and we are appreciative of the fact [that] this is going to be one of their signature hotels. We appreciate [what] you are doing here in Crystal City and Northern Virginia. You are going to be a part of our community and we are very proud of that.”
Between the 300-room Renaissance Arlington Capital View and the connected 325 all-suite
Residence Inn Arlington Capital View, both hotels have brought some 250 new jobs to the surrounding community.
The hard work of many of those new employees was evident during last night’s party, with guests enjoying plenty of the properties’ signature amenities, including complimentary savory and sweet bites from the hotel’s lounge menu and on-site
SOCCi Italian restaurant.
Acclaimed New York chef
Eric Bromberg of the popular
Blue Ribbon Restaurant Group was even in attendance, presiding over a lavish buffet of white bean hummus toast, grilled cheese Panini, manchego and Mexican honey toast, “Northern fried” chicken wings, and much more.
