CADDY’S ALLEY -- Unless you happen to be a huge design nerd (like us), chances are you’ve come across a really cool dish or fork at a friend’s house, but had no idea where he or she bought it. And chances are equally good that
Alessi was the source of such cutlery or tableware-inspired envy.
Dating back to the 1930s, Alessi is one of Italy’s self-described “Design Factories.” With a manufacturing and design process still rooted in a culture of handicraft, it consistently churns out – either by itself or through one of its partners – some of the most dynamic, functional, and visually intriguing home accessories available on the market today. Think playful uses of light, shadow, and symmetry…
Many Alessi pieces are designed to provide a playful ‘trompe l'oeil’ element.
It’s no wonder that the Alessi name is synonymous with many an engaged couple’s wedding registry!
Thursday night,
Deborah Kalkstein – owner of both Alessi’s flagship D.C. location as well as the neighboring
Contemporaria – threw a casual cocktail party inside the Cady’s Alley-based store, which was designed to familiarize Washingtonians with the Alessi brand (credit where credit is due!).
Store owner Deborah Kalkstein and Donald Syriani.
Using some of the designer brand’s signature home accessory products, Kalkstein strained, zested, juiced, and poured a series of signature cocktails for the occasion, with each variant based on a different flavor of
Honest Tea combined with Belvedere vodka.
As they sipped their refreshing drinks, guests mingled about the Alessi showroom admiring the products on display and chatting with some of the brand’s ambassadors who had travelled to D.C. from New York just for the occasion.
Extra ordinary evening!
