GEORGETOWN -- It might be sweltering outside, but the fall fundraising season (aka ‘gala season’) for the District’s many worthy nonprofits still has yet to heat-up! Nevertheless, given the limited supply and seemingly infinite demand, a few plucky charities are always eager to get started early. First out of the gate this year?
Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
As a celebratory kick-off to the organization’s annual ‘Honoring the Promise’ gala, the young professionals subgroup for D.C. hosted a crowded reception on Thursday evening, at Georgetown’s popular
Peacock Café.

Dozens of the city’s rising stars from the political, business, media, and non-profit worlds joined Komen foundation founder
Ambassador Nancy Brinker to toast the organization’s efforts to end breast cancer.
Emmy award-winning journalist Angie Goff, Ella-Rue boutique owner Krista Johnson, and PNC Realty Investors Investment Analyst Allison Prescott.
Guests toasted with signature ‘Think Pink’ cocktails.
Now in its second year (the 2010 inaugural celebration raised approximately $2 million), the 2011 black-tie affair will take place on Friday, October 28th at 7:30 p.m. inside the spacious halls of the
Kennedy Center.
A decidedly celebratory occasion…
This year’s guest emcee is
reported to be “Today Show” co-anchor
Hoda Kotb. A breast cancer survivor herself (she even invited viewers to follow her struggle on TV), Kotb will be joined on-stage by plenty of similar celebrity star power,
including actress
Rosario Dawson.
CBS News Producer Christine Delargy, Komen foundation's Kiki Ryan, and FD's Mary Kathryn Covert.
A promising start, to be sure!
