GEORGETOWN -- The some 4 million members of online luxury powerhouse Gilt Groupe are a desirable bunch to be sure. Just how desirable, you ask? Well, 98% of them are city dwellers, 70% of them have a household income level greater than $100,000, and, here’s the kicker, 66% of them are under the age of 40 (with a full third in their 20s).
Devoted Gilt Groupe members/partygoers.
In feting the upcoming widespread launch of its locally-minded Gilt City deal service on August 1st, the New York-based company threw a blowout summer bash on Tuesday evening for its target D.C. customers, which also just happened to represent a rising who’s who of the District’s political, social, philanthropic, business, and media worlds.
The DJ combined a mixed soundtrack with live electric violin performances.
And so a couple of hundred of the city’s young movers-and-shakers descended upon Georgetown’s historic Halcyon House last night, for a fun-filled affair featuring garden games and gourmet goodies.
Gilt City’s both national and D.C. executives.
Co-hosts Juleanna Glover, Winston Lord, Susanna Quinn, Lindsay Czarniak, and Craig Melvin were joined by Gilt City D.C. Curator Marissa Schneider in leisurely chatting with guests, while noshing on small summertime bites and sipping refreshing libations.
The BrandLinkDC team at the end of the party.
Embracing the advantages of “going local”, Gilt charged Jayne Sandman and Barbara Martin’s Bethesda-headquartered public relations firm, BrandLinkDC, with the ambitious task of throwing one of the best parties of the summer.
Rising to the challenge, the much buzzed about duo and their team quickly sprung into action, somehow managing to temporarily tame the city’s recent bout with heat and humidity – all the while culling a guest-list that would have been at home at either a White House fundraiser or Hollywood premiere.
Television anchors? Political heavyweights? Nonprofit heads? Startup executives? They were all there. And not just because it was a great party (although it was)...
Indeed, last night’s guests enthusiastically welcomed the arrival of Gilt to Washington. The company promises to bridge the gap between bargain-heavy deal websites and aspirational luxury offerings, in curating the right mix of exclusivity with attractive prices.
It looks like Washingtonians will have a new Gilty pleasure this fall…
