NORTHWEST -- When
Newsweek describes a book as “delightful”, book worms take note. But when such a well-liked publication calls a book “delightfully
obscene”, a cultural vein is tapped! Yet such a plaudit is but one in a sea of praise that is currently being showered on author
Adam Mansbach’s most recent book,
Go the Fuck to Sleep.
Since it was first released last month, the irreverent children’s book has enjoyed a quick ride to the top of many “best seller” lists, including a current, plum #1 perch on top of
The New York Times list in the “Hardcover Advice & Misc.” category.
And last night, Washingtonian parents (and aunts, uncles, babysitters or anyone who has sat next to a baby on an airplane before, for that matter) were treated to a special book reading/signing by the author/parent himself at K Street power spot
P.J. Clarke’s.
Members of the restaurant’s semiprivate dining club, known simply as “Sidecar”, enjoyed a guest-list only cocktail hour prior to the public reading, which afforded them the opportunity to talk with Mansbach one-on-one while enjoying passed hors d’oeuvres and refreshing libations from P.J. Clarke’s mighty oak bar.
The book reading itself filled the restaurant’s wrought iron solarium with close to a hundred of Mansbach’s literary fans. The centerpiece of P.J. Clarke’s first floor, the room was originally found inside the family friendly Disney estate (yes,
that Disney) and a more perfect setting for a swarm of laughing parents could not exist.
Now, will you please go the fuck to sleep D.C.?
