U STREET CORRIDOR -- Having played host to the likes of
Bob Dylan,
Radiohead, and the
Red Hot Chili Peppers over the years, U Street’s (well, technically V Street’s)
9:30 Club is no stranger to the underpinnings of popular culture.
Yet the legendary live-music venue nevertheless found itself catering to a new audience on Wednesday evening, as Brooklyn, New York-based
Yeasayer took the stage for an hour-long set celebrating the local launch of
Gilt City’s luxe new lifestyle website just two days earlier.
When Yeasayer last visited the District back in June, fans happily forked over $25/ticket to hear the critically acclaimed band play. But thanks to Gilt City, Washingtonians were able to enjoy the trio’s self-described “exploratory rhythms and techno-savvy sounds” for a bargain basement $10 admission fee yesterday – all the while enjoying a special open bar that remained open from 7:30pm to 8:30pm.
In blending a highly sought-after concert-going experience with an attractive price, the night was representative of the kind of offers that Gilt City plans to rollout throughout the rest of the year.
The icing on the cake? The company donated $1.00 to a charity of Yeasayer’s choice every time a fan simply shared the deal with friends online via Facebook or Twitter.
The Gilt City team.
Must clearly have something to do with a Gilty conscience…
