ADAMS MORGAN -- There might have been a bare minimum of mischievous forest fairies or young Athenian lovers in attendance (and not a single donkey that we could find), but the same playful revelry reflected in Shakespeare’s
A Midsummer Night's Dream could easily be found in abundance on Saturday night, during the D.C. chapter of
Dreams for Kids’ primary summer fundraiser.
Cleverly titled ‘A Mid-Summer Night
for Dreams’, the event brought together some 400 of the city’s young professionals inside Adams Morgan’s beautifully appointed
L’Aiglon Mansion, for an evening of light hors d’oeuvres and desserts, premium open bars, and music.
Following in the footsteps of the organization’s successful ‘Jam for Dreams’ benefit last fall, guests rocked-out to a series of live sets from a handful of prominent local DJs – all the while encouraged to participate in an evening-long raffle boasting prizes like a pair of
Washington Redskins tickets or a free happy hour at nearby
Town Tavern.
The night served a dual purpose in also celebrating the appointment of
Glenda Fu as Dream for Kids DC’s new Executive Director. No stranger to the District’s nonprofit world having worked with both
Women for Women International and the
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Man & Woman of the Year campaign, Fu will assume founder and outgoing Executive Director
Andrew Horn’s role, as he makes the transition to the organization’s National Office based out of Chicago.
“Past the wit of man” perhaps, but not of woman apparently! (That’s a Shakespeare reference for all you non-English majors out there...)
