PENN QUARTER -- “There’s a lot of pretty girls in this city…” croons R&B artist
Iyaz on his current hit single, “Pretty Girls.” Unfortunately, however, approximately one in eight of them will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
Raising a fork (and microphone) in the fight against such a vicious disease,
The Tommy Show radio host
Tommy McFLY and the entire
94.7 Fresh FM family threw a gourmet food tasting fundraiser on Sunday afternoon, at the
Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown hotel.
Hundreds of supporters gladly plunked down $20 in exchange for the chance to sample a variety of both sweet and savory bites from more than a dozen of the District’s best and beloved restaurants and eateries, with some travelling from as far away as Manassas, VA and Gaithersburg, MD for the occasion.
The Source Executive Chef
Scott Drewno’s prized spicy tuna tartare cones, the tasty smoked salmon terrines from Chef
Michel Richard’s
Michel at The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner, and
Carmine’s famed family-style Italian dishes (where
Vice President Joe Biden had dined that very same day) were but a handful of the foodie favorites available.
“It was so great to be able to rally our restaurant friends, Fresh Fam and folks who listen to the show for a great day of awareness, fundraising and delicious bites,” said McFLY.
100% of each $20 ticket was donated in support of the community screenings and educational programs of the
Prevent Cancer Foundation, such as George Washington University’s popular mobile mammography unit.
This being a Fresh FM celebration, all of the station’s on-air talent was in attendance, including
Kelly Collis,
Kristie McIntyre,
Darik Kristofer, and
Taylor Shay. And guests were even treated to a live performance by up-and-coming singer/songwriter
Rachel Platten, who boarded a train from New York City that morning just to perform at the event.

In addition to supporting a worthy cause, Fresh FM was one of the first radio stations in the country to spin her current hit single “1,000 Ships” on-air and she was happy to return the favor.
Between bites and beats, attendees were free to watch the
Washington Redskins take a pounding from the Philadelphia Eagles on a 20-foot projected TV screen, receive a complimentary psychic reading from
Rev. Sherry Sherry, and even create a personalized photo magnet courtesy of
MagnetUp.
