NORTHWEST -- With millennials leading the oenophile movement into the 21st century, the typical stereotypes surrounding wine tasting are rapidly disappearing. Spearheading such a transformation, with a more relaxed and fun approach to wine discovery and sampling, is
Second Glass’ notoriously playful ‘Wine Riot’ tour.

Originally a Boston-based event that provided twenty and thirty-somethings a casual setting to sip and learn about wine without any of the pretense that is normally associated with such an activity, Wine Riot’s popularity at home set the stage for a broader expansion.
And on Saturday evening, the series’ first national tour concluded at DAR Constitution Hall, with the final of three Washington engagements designed to coincide with the end of DC Wine Week.
Winos and wine newbies alike were invited to sample from more than 250 different varieties of vino from virtually every corner of the globe – all the while enjoying optional bites of cheese, charcuterie, chocolate, and even lobster rolls from the likes of
Luke’s Lobster.
Embracing technology as a productive tool in wine discovery, guests were encouraged to use Wine Riot’s innovative mobile application along the way, which provided them with the ability to build a list of their favorite sampled wines throughout the event, for recollection later at home.
A rotating series of 20-minute ‘crash course’ wine seminars ensured that even the most inexperienced wine drinker came away with a commanding body of knowledge and, for those that still might have found themselves above their heads, members of Second Glass’ roaming ‘Wine Intelligence Unit’ were standing-by to answer any lingering questions.
Cleary, not your parents’ wine tasting event D.C.!
