For the fourth consecutive year, the annual photography festival known as FotoWeek DC
returned to the District over the weekend, with a crowded Friday evening kick-off party held at the Corcoran Gallery of Art
After an exclusive preview opening of the 2011 exhibitions at this year’s FotoWeek Central location (1800 L Street, NW) beginning at 5:00 p.m., the city’s shutterbugs were ushered nearby to the museum’s storied atrium where cocktails and hors d’oeuvres awaited.
In addition to the requisite pop-up photography showcases on display at the Corcoran that night, including works by the institution’s student artists, guests were given unfettered access to the museum’s own exhibits, such as the recently opened
With the success of their performance at last year’s FotoWeek DC closing party still fresh in everyone’s mind, the DJs behind the popular Fatback
dance party returned for the 2011 kick-off celebration and had the crowd quickly engulfed in rhythmic motion.
Originally conceived in 2008 by founder Theo Adamstein
and a small group of friends and photographers, FotoWeek DC has morphed over the years into a destination citywide event that attracts upwards of 40,000 visitors.
Don’t forget to smile Washington!
