GEORGETOWN -- Normally a late night destination for some of the District’s most affluent residents and visitors (everyone from billionaire
Mark Cuban to soccer superstar
David Beckham has been spotted there in the last year), Cady's Alley-based
L2 Lounge came alive a bit earlier on Thursday night for
The Madisons’ annual welcome bash for new members.
A professional, civic, and social organization, The Madisons strive to improve their surrounding community, while simultaneously building lasting friendships, through regular acts of volunteerism about D.C.
Membership is strictly limited to 100 female members at any given moment and new membership is offered only once a year at the invitation of the non-profit’s board.
For 2012, the competition for one of the handful of open spots was particularly fierce, with close to a record number of applications received.
All proceeds from The Madisons’ fundraising efforts each year is earmarked for a single beneficiary charity. As it was in 2011, this year’s recipient is
No Greater Sacrifice: a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the children of fallen and wounded members of the U.S. armed services.
And door donations from yesterday’s crowded welcoming event raised close to $1,000 in support of No Greater Sacrifice. Access to the event was restricted to Madison members only for the first hour, with friends and guests lining up outside just after 9:00p.m. for the chance to join the Mardi Gras-themed party.
A treat of a meet-and-greet, for sure!
