GEORGETOWN -- With thousands of nonprofits in the D.C. metro area, the city surely is not lacking in the ‘cause’ department when it comes to hosting a great event. But sometimes, it’s nice to just throw a party for fun’s sake, without a clearcut purpose. And so it came to be on Tuesday, as
Allison Priebe Brooks temporarily threw open the doors to Georgetown’s private
City Tavern Club for an intimate ladies dinner.
After hugs and drinks, followed by more hugs, the two dozen or so lucky invitees dove into a gourmet three-course Italian dinner inside the building’s elegant Great Hall. The menu consisted of a crisp Caesar salad with hand-shaved parmesan cheese, four cheese ravioli with a parmesan Alfredo cream sauce, and a vanilla crème brulee with a caramel shell for dessert.
As the owner of the successful Alexandria-based jewelry design firm,
Queen Bee Designs, and as the society and lifestyle columnist for
Local Kicks, Brooks has made many prominent friends over the years.
And more than two dozen of them turned out yesterday for the relaxed occasion, where the only goal was for Brooks to simply say “I love you” and “gratzi” to all in attendance. Among the young professionals spotted mingling at the dinner were
Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (D-CA), artist and designer
Maggie O'Neill, philanthropists
Amanda Polk and
Katherine Kennedy, and Washington Fine Properties’
Ashley Taylor.
“So many of the events we have are quick ‘drive-bys’,” Brooks said. “I wanted to slow down and show the people I love and admire how much I really appreciate them. I am a lucky lady to have such great friends; it was a very special night!”
And that’s why Brooks is the queen bee!
