NORTHWEST -- The fur certainly flew on Saturday night at the National Building Museum, during the sixth annual Fashion For Paws Runway Show benefiting the Washington Humane Society.

This year’s sold-out soiree was by far the program’s most successful to date with models, sponsors, and committee members raising more than $700,000 since the organization’s launch party on February 6th — a milestone made all the more impressive given the original already high $625,000 goal.

Hosted by E! News television personality Ashlan Gorse and with singer/actress Marie Osmond serving as honorary chairwoman, the 2012 Runway Show saw more than 60 models take the stage on Saturday evening sporting the latest fashions courtesy of the tony designer boutiques at Tysons Galleria.

Evening sponsors, such as Syzygy Events International, Digital Lighting, and Design Cuisine, contributed more than $350,000 worth of services to the event in order to maximize the amount of money raised by the Fashion For Paws program.

As one of the city’s signature see-and-be-seen social events of the spring for “young Washington”, a bevy of local notables could be spotted mingling about Saturday’s nearly 2,000-strong crowd, including CNN correspondent and environmental advocate Philippe Cousteau (who also happens to be Gorse’s boyfriend) and Washington Redskins running back Tim Hightower.

MicroStrategy founder Michael Saylor and MC Dean CEO Bill Dean were but two of the philanthropists who purchased $10,000 tables for the occasion, which also each boasted a bottomless bottle of Moet & Chandon Imperial champagne in addition to prime front row seats and a catered gourmet dinner.

Top 2012 fundraisers Nikki Burdine ($43,000 raised) and Mark Rothman ($17,000 raised) were recognized on-stage for their respective fundraising acumen (the competition was heated and lasted until just hours before the runway show itself) although Osmond’s adoption of an adorable WHS puppy (she named him George after her late father George Osmond who passed away in 2007) just might have stolen the show.
