NORTHWEST -- Both the end of days and a potentially disruptive downpour were narrowly avoided on Thursday evening, during the
Organization of American States’ third annual ‘Art After Dark’ celebration.
Now in its third year, the lively nocturnal benefit returned to the
Art Museum of the Americas sporting a timely ‘Apocalypse’ theme (in reference to the professed December 21st, 2012 doomsday predicted by the Mayan calendar).
In addition to an open beer, wine, and champagne bar, this year’s celebration showcased the primarily video artwork of a variety of both established and emerging artists, including
Antón Cabaleiro,
Juanma Carillo,
Nicky Enright,
Felix Fernandez,
Linda Hesh,
Philip Hodges,
Seo Jo,
Carolina Mayorga,
Bruce McKaig, and
Elena Patino.
Moreover, MTV Latin America had arranged for
DJ Mauricio Parra to help contribute to the night’s soundtrack, only possibly being upstaged by a live performance from New York City-based
Banda Magda.
As the cultural component of the Organization of American States, the Art After Dark program raises funds for the non-profit’s ongoing effort to engage communities, promote democratic values, and human rights through art and educational programs.
Zombies beware.
