Pink The New Black At ’12 Newsbabes Bash For Breast Cancer!

NORTHWEST -- With all of the hustle and bustle you would expect from an event that drew dozens of Washington’s top news anchors, flash bulbs were popping and TV crews filming at the historic and recently re-opened Howard Theatre, on Tuesday night.

But it wasn’t one of the District’s signature diplomatic soirees that drew such marquee names. Rather, it was the latest (and largest to date) Newsbabes Bash for Breast Cancer fundraiser.

A now annual benefit that first began in 2009 when a group of good friends in the TV news industry decided to unite behind the banner of a single cause, the unapologetically pink-tinged affair raises much-needed funds and awareness for breast cancer causes.

Washington Redskins players were among the night’s guests.
The beneficiary charity for 2012 is George Washington University Breast Care Center’s mobile mammography unit. Every $3,500 that the Newsbabes raise keeps the ‘Mammovan’ on the road for another day.

Lending her name to the cause at this year’s bash was honored guest and NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell. She was joined by the evening’s familiar hosts, including Anita Brikman, Pamela Brown, Rebecca Cooper, Laura Evans, Doreen Gentzler, Jennifer Griffin, Lesli Foster, Angie Goff, Hilary Howard, Megan Hughes, Brianna Keilar, Britt McHenry, Sue Palka, Andrea Roane, Cynne Simpson, Alison Starling, Shawn Yancy, and Eun Yang, in welcoming the many supporters who turned out.

The Georgetown Cupcake table was a popular hangout for hosts and guests alike!

DC 101’s DJ Flounder provided the soundtrack for the 2012 bash.
In addition to the opportunity to mingle with their favorite news personalities, ticketholders were treated to cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a pink dessert bar courtesy of Georgetown Cupcake, Dolci Gelati, and Sweet Signatures.

Bespoke clothier Alton Lane fitted the ‘Newsmen’ with pink ties for the occasion.
New for 2012 was also a special appearance by the ‘Newsmen in Pink’: a friendly group of the hosts’ male news anchor counterparts. Counting many household names, such as Leon Harris, Ed Henry, Bob Madigan, Will Thomas, Juan Williams, and Luke Russert, among themselves, their support only further added to the energy of the night.
