SOUTHWEST -- Washington’s current heat wave failed to dampen the spirits of the hundreds of patriotically-adorned revelers who enthusiastically took over the freshly remodeled
Kastles Stadium at The Wharf on Wednesday afternoon, for the second annual
Red White & Boom party.
Encouraged by a stellar ‘
Editors’ Pick' award by
The Washington Post in the days leading-up to the event, guests knew they were in for a good time, with specially-priced pre-sale tickets snapped-up quickly.
No doubt, the red, white, and blue zeal of ticketholders was fueled, in part, by the five hour open air, open bar and food trucks lining the sports venue. But the true energy of the afternoon came not from a Rocky Mountain cold refreshment or base spirit of sorts. Rather, it was the well-conceived and even better performed live party soundtrack that won over everyone’s hearts and minds.
Boasting a little bit of something for everyone, Red White & Boom’s artist roster featured everyone from self-described ‘purveyor of grooves’
DJ Ricky Schramm to D.C. local country rockers
The Morrison Brothers Band to headlining performers
Yacht Rock Revue.
The latter, of course, is an Atlanta-based cover band known for their spot-on renditions of songs by Hall & Oates, Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, and ‘the rest of the
Time-Life Infomercial Catalog.’ Indeed, the
Post attributed the ‘extra smooth vibe’ coming from yesterday’s Independence Day party directly to its nod to ‘70s soft rock.
Because what’s more American than chilling by a river with good tunes and good friends, right?
