WASHINGTON, D.C. -- With his second restaurant, Georgetown’s
Bandolero, just having barely celebrated its
two month anniversary, Chef
Mike Isabella is prepping yet another (albeit temporary) restaurant concept. Only this one has wheels.
In partnership with the Food Network’s
CityEats restaurant reservation service, the
Top Chef star will be making the rounds of Washington, D.C. tomorrow, July 25th, in a custom designed food truck modeled after his flagship
Graffiato location.
But this is no ordinary vehicle. The self-described ‘Popemobile of food trucks’ will feature glass panels on three sides, so that customers can see everything happening inside during each of its five stops throughout the day (full schedule below).
All the while, Isabella will be quizzing his fans with a special ‘Challenge Your Palate’ contest. Those participants who correctly identify the ingredients used in dishes that the chef has prepared using Breville kitchen appliances will win prizes ranging from free meals at Graffiato to iPods to signed copies of Isabella’s upcoming cookbook.
- 8:00 a.m. - Dupont Circle – Q Street between 20th and Connecticut NW.
- 11:00 a.m. - Union Station – Corner of Massachusetts Ave and F Street NW.
- 1:00 p.m. - Franklin Park – Corner of 14th and K Streets NW.
- 4:45 p.m. - Farragut North – K Street between 17th and Connecticut NW.
- 6:30 p.m. - National Mall – Corner of 10th Street and Constitution Ave NW.
Admittedly, tomorrow’s limited run Graffiato food truck is Isabella’s first attempt to test the waters in the mobile space. But seeing as how he already has two standalone restaurants in his portfolio, with plans for another two in 2013, it’s hard to imagine such wheels
not gaining traction.
