TAMPA, Fl. -- Racing the 'golden waves' produced by Hurricane Isaac’s stormy weather, multi-Platinum-certified recording artist
Gavin DeGraw flew into Tampa this week to headline a special benefit concert during the Republican National Convention.
Co-produced by the
Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and non-profit
Musicians On Call, with the support of presenting sponsor the
Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, the red carpet event was held late Tuesday evening inside the city’s infamous
Dallas Bull country-themed performance venue.
After accepting an exclusive Career Gold & Platinum Program Award from RIAA Chairman & CEO
Cary Sherman and chatting with a handful of VIPs behind the scenes, DeGraw powered through an hour-long set that featured virtually all of his popular hits, including “I Don’t Want to Be” and “Chariot”.
The charity event helped raise money for Musicians On Call’s nationwide programs that bring the healing power of music to the bedsides of wounded soldiers at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, VA hospitals, and other healthcare facilities.
“Gavin has been a longtime supporter of MOC, and has always been generous with his time and talent,” said Dr. Leslie Faerstein, MOC’s Executive Director. “He participated in our Bedside Performance Program a number of times over the years, and his music and sheer presence brought a smile to so many children’s faces. He is a true friend to our organization.”
