GEORGETOWN -- The unmistakable aroma of freshly cooked lobster invitingly drifted about Cady’s Alley late Friday evening, as luxe
L2 Lounge hosted a charitable clam bake party benefiting the
Prevent Cancer Foundation.
Hosted by
Katherine Kennedy,
Maureen Beach,
Kirsten Good,
Sarah Sands, and
Leah Dyrud, the New England-themed soiree attracted some one hundred supporters, with many dressed in their finest Nantucket reds and boat shoes.
Whether it was the buttery lobster rolls being served-up by the pop-up
Luke’s Lobster location inside, the chance to don summer apparel for one last time this year or simply the opportunity to give a little something back to charity, Friday night’s affair easily surpassed its $1,000 fundraising goal – surely in no small part thanks to the generosity of many of L2’s members, including
Ken Suarez who personally donated more than $500 alone.
The funds raised during the seafood soiree specifically benefited the
DanceTrance DC team ‘competing’ at Sunday’s
Prevent Cancer Foundation 5k, to be held at Nationals Park.
“I was overwhelmed Friday night with all of the support for the Prevent Cancer Foundation,” said 5k Chair and evening co-host Kennedy. “L2 was packed with supporters enjoying their Luke's Lobsters and cocktails.”
“It was great to see such a crowd understand the importance of prevention. Fundraising is great but what is greater is how easy it is to have a conversation reminding people to get checked, wear sunscreen, eat better and exercise more. These are things we can do together and I was blessed to share so many stories of friends who had been touched by cancer and were there to band together to stop cancer before it starts."
The annual mid-morning walk/run is now just a few thousand dollars short of its $100,000 goal, with this last week expected to push the nonprofit successfully over the fundraising finish line.
An accomplishment perhaps even more savory than a freshly cooked New England lobster…
