CHEVY CHASE, Md. -- Bathed in a soothing shade of pink and adorned with its own ‘pink ribbon’, the spacious
Chevy Chase location of luxury retailer
Saks Fifth Avenue kicked-off its annual ‘
Key To the Cure’ shopping event on Wednesday evening.
A three-day charitable shopping event held at most Saks stores nation-wide, the Key To The Cure celebration is now in its 14th year, with community-owned
Suburban Hospital designated as the Chevy Chase beneficiary nonprofit for 2012.
Over the next few days, two percent of all purchases at Saks Chevy Chase will be earmarked to the women’s cancer programs at the NIH and Johns Hopkins Medicine-affiliated hospital. Additionally, Saks has rolled-out a variety of other fashionable fundraising techniques, including the sale of a limited edition
Carolina Herrera t-shirt.
The first raffle winner of the night!
By far the most philanthropically fun method made available by the upscale store, however, was last night’s ‘Keys to the Treasure Box’ raffle. $50 bought participants a treasure box key (or three for $100) which potentially unlocked a transparent chest brimming with prizes.
The best part? The value of each prize package ranged between $100 to $2,000 with the odds of winning at only 100+ (compare that to the lottery!). And for those winners that were truly philanthropically minded, an option even existed to donate prizes back to the Suburban Hospital Foundation.
But truly there were no losers at last night’s celebration, as everyone got to take advantage of the gratis cocktails, food, and entertainment up for grabs. Award-winning restaurants, such as Proof, Adour, Estadio, Sushiko, Matchbox, and The Capital Grille, were all in attendance, with plenty of both sweet and savory ‘Key Cuisine’.
And ubiquitous D.C. event planning and catering companies, like
EVOKE, Syzygy Events, and Ridgewells Catering, stood at the ready to ensure seamless service for guests.
Ensuring that such a large-scale celebration goes off without a hitch doesn’t come easy and event co-chairs
Marie Coleman and
Nina Snow, along with a volunteer planning committee numbering close to a hundred, tirelessly toiled for months to achieve such success.
Shopping for a cause might be fun after all, but finding a Key To The Cure takes plenty of hard work.
