DUPONT CIRCLE -- The bespoke movement in Washington continues to flourish, with New York City-based Michael Andrews Bespoke the latest custom tailor to plant its flag in the District.

Occupying the upper two floors of a stately brownstone near Dupont Circle, the D.C. showroom will serve as the company’s second location and its first outside of its hometown.

But the decision to expand South was nevertheless an easy one. “We already have dozens of clients in the area who travel to see us in New York, and since the two cities are so close I can easily split my time between both locations,” said the brand’s namesake, Michael Andrews.

A self described “recovering corporate attorney” for nearly 8 years, Andrews opened his own tailor shop in 2006, with the vision of crafting high-end, approachable menswear with a modern flair. His decision to do so was born out of the frustration he experienced when trying to have custom clothes manufactured for his own personal use.

The rest is sartorial history. Since Michael Andrews Bespoke first launched, it has been named to countless “Best Of” lists, including those of New York Magazine, Time Out New York, and even Bloomberg Markets (a solid Wall Street endorsement).

The brand’s suits have three levels of distinction, the Entrada, Primo, and Ultimo, with prices starting at $995, $1,395, and $2,395 respectively. Clients are guided through the design process by skilled stylists, who help them navigate through some 10,000 fabric options. Custom shirts, ties, and artistic cuff links round out the product selection at each showroom.

And Tuesday evening, hundreds of the city’s most fashionable had the opportunity to see and feel such stylish selections firsthand during a D.C. grand opening party hosted by Andrews himself.

Between perusals of inner and outerpattern options, thread colors, and wood, horn, and mother-of-pearl button types, guests gravitated towards the showroom’s lavish eight-foot long, fully stocked bar, which has become a key focal point of its New York City location.

Cheers to custom clothing.
