DUPONT CIRCLE -- The clinking of glasses and sounds of ice cubes liberally being bandied about filled the lower levels of the
Renaissance Washington, DC Dupont Circle Hotel on Wednesday evening, as
Washingtonian magazine premiered its first
Whiskey and Fine Spirits Festival.
Aptly titled ‘On The Rocks’, the event invited area foodies to sip spirits from around the world, with dozens of premium whiskey, scotch, malts, bourbon, rum, vodka, gin, and tequila on the menu.
At their request, guests were schooled in the libation linguistics of the occasion, with terms like "single," "blended," "grain," and "malt" all touched upon.
As if the drinks themselves weren’t enough to bring smiles to everyone’s faces, a live band played in the background of the warmly-lit ballroom throughout the night for added energy.
For those looking to indulge in the occasional guilty pleasure (and judging by the crowd that formed, many were), a cigar roller was stationed near the door to the outdoor patio to demonstrate proper stogie craftsmanship.
Even Mother Nature couldn’t help but get in on all of the pouring fun, with a quick rain shower capping the evening. Cheers to that!
