GLOVER PARK -- Even the bad were still technically good late Thursday evening, as Washington's premiere 'Naughty or Nice' holiday party took over Glover Park mainstay Town Hall for its 23rd annual incarnation.
New for 2012 was the bash's relocation away from Dupont Circle-based Public Bar, as the newly svelte host committee (which had been deliberately trimmed compared to past years) sought to inject the much looked forward to event with an added dose of energy and new blood.
The selection of Town Hall as this year's venue of choice in many ways returns the 'Naughty or Nice' party back to its roots, as a mainly Georgetown tradition. The private charitable celebration called Wisconsin Avenue's Third Edition home for some 20 years before outgrowing the space.
Despite its by-invitation-only status, 'Naughty or Nice' does its best to be inclusive with approximately 500 supporters in attendance last night. While Glover Park regulars likely saw several familiar faces in the crowd, what makes the party unique is its ability to also attract revelers from other parts of the city and even the surrounding suburbs.
Such a solid turnout allowed yesterday's event to raise approximately $10,000 in both cash and toy donations for the DC YMCA, with the former making up close to half of that and the latter resulting in more than 8 stuffed trash bags packed full of games, stuffed animals, dolls, and more.
Santa better check that list twice this year. Apparently, the naughty aren't so bad after all.
