GEORGETOWN -- Mere days after POTUS himself popped-in to
Cafe Milano for
First Lady Michelle Obama's
birthday, some hundred or so equally familiar household names found themselves at the Georgetown hotspot for a special inauguration brunch hosted by
Newsweek & The Daily Beast.
A three-hour strictly by-invitation-only event that began on Sunday at 11:00 a.m., the relaxed gathering was deliberately organized by
Beast Editor-in-Chief
Tina Brown as a bipartisan celebration that was designed to draw a diverse crowd of VIPs.
And it doesn't get much more diverse than a restaurant lobby that finds itself with (likely) future U.S. Secretary of State
John Kerry chatting with 2013 Miss America
Mallory Hagan while
Eva Longoria and
Harvey Weinstein are rubbing elbows nearby with the likes of
General Colin Powell and the cast of
Glee.
Ironically, food was perhaps the last thing on the minds of the guests to Sunday's brunch despite an amazing spread prepared by Milano owner
Franco Nuschese's celebrated culinary team. Mimosas, coffee, and, yes, more coffee flowed liberally, however.
Thanks to the generous sponsorship of financial services giant
Credit Suisse nary a single tax dollar was spent on the gathering, which surely brought a smile to attendee
Grover Norquist's face.
It was truly one of the best Beastly brunches to date.
