NATIONAL MALL -- It was fashion's turn to take flight on Sunday night, as a parade of partygoers descended upon the National Mall for
Washingtonian magazine's debut Inaugural Ball, which was held inside the Smithsonian's famed National Air and Space Museum.
Some 500 guests donned their finest duds for the black tie optional affair, which quickly sold out at even $350/ticket. And once inside, it was easy to see (and taste) why.
The venerable publication's longtime local partners,
Syzygy Events International and
Ridgewells Catering, had been enlisted to transform the cavernous museum into a thematic 'Starry Night'.
Carefully positioned lighting and projectors set the proper mood amidst the planes, rockets, and missiles hanging above, with well stocked buffets, bars, and a live band doing the rest in keeping guests happy.
Every so often, a celebrity or politician would cause attendees to do a double take, although it was political speechwriter turned Hollywood entertainer
Ben Stein that closed out the party along with the 'regular' guests, casually strolling about the museum with
Washingtonian Publisher
Cathy Merrill Williams.
All in all, a perfect inaugural Inaugural Ball.
