GEORGETOWN -- Charitable giving was literally in full swing on Saturday evening, as the Junior Council subgroup of
Children's National Medical Center hosted its signature sold-out nighttime benefit known as 'Dancing After Dark'.
Now in its sixth year, the 'festive cocktail' chic affair drew its usual mix of some 500 well dressed twenty and thirtysomethings, who happily braved a particularly cold Washington evening for the chance to celebrate at the
House of Sweden on the Georgetown waterfront.
Each ticket bought guests access to a sumptuous dessert buffet, flowing cocktails, a silent auction supported by everyone from the Washington Wizards to Drybar to Olympic gold medalist
Katie Ledecky, and, naturally, a raucous dance floor fueled by the musical stylings of
The Winn Brothers Band.
Still, despite the popularity of the D.C.-based seven-piece Motown and classic rock cover band, even they had to play second fiddle throughout the night to Children's National mascot
Dr. Bear, who was also ever present, posing for pictures and shaking hands (and paws).
Founded more than 140 years ago, Children’s National Medical Center is the only exclusive provider of pediatric care in the metropolitan Washington area, caring for more than 360,000 patients each year, and a leader in the development and application of innovative new treatments for childhood illness and injury.
Dr. Bear ain't a bad dancer either.
