'House of Cards' star Kevin Spacey chatting with reporters on the red carpet at the series' D.C. premiere last night.
NORTHWEST -- Greed. Sex. Love. Corruption. '
House of Cards' won't be the first drama to associate such attributes to modern Washington, when the new series makes its public debut on Friday, February 1st.
What will be new, however, is the method of distribution, with online DVD rental service-turned-online video streaming service
Netflix making all 13 episodes of the original show available to its members in North America, the UK, Ireland, Latin America, and Scandinavia.
Gone are the days of online streaming serving as a mere afterthought for Hollywood. The stars of 'House of Cards' are household names already, with Academy Award-winner
Kevin Spacey playing the lead role as charismatic, but ruthless, House Majority Whip Francis Underwood.
Joining Spacey on the drama, which is based on a BBC miniseries of the same name, is an all-star cast including
Robin Wright, who plays his equally beguiling wife,
Kate Mara,
Corey Stoll,
Kristen Connolly,
Michael Kelly, and
Sakina Jaffrey.
And virtually all of the stars, along with Screenwriter, Executive Producer, and Showrunner
Beau Willimon, walked the red carpet last night at the
Newseum, for the show's D.C. premiere.
With the show a self-described "uncompromising exploration of power, ambition and the American way", a who's who of the city's VIPs were also in attendance, including legendary TV journalist
Bob Schieffer and a solid contingent from the Hill.
