DUPONT CIRCLE -- There wasn't much studying going on, but the 'Library' at The Huxley was still packed last night, as the Dupont Circle club opened its doors to guests for its first Thursday night party.
Dubbed 'Library Thursdays', after the venue's more intimate, secondary event space (modeled after a library), the new weekly series is intended to cater to D.C. residents, primarily from Georgetown, who might prefer a Top 40/mashup-focused soundtrack instead of the more typical house music found playing at The Huxley during the weekend.
To kick-off the series, owners Ryan Seelbach and Eric Lund invited a group of well-liked Georgetown regulars to host last night's launch party, including Becca Thorsen, Win Huffman, Katherine Kennedy, German Vivas, and Liz Owens.
Fresh from his own world tour and just prior to his new performance residency in Las Vegas, French saxophonist Natty Rico was enlisted as a surprise guest yesterday and played a lively series of songs alongside resident DJ Oz.
Bottles flowed liberally to the tables surrounding the room throughout the night and guests were encouraged to make requests of the DJ, with the whole point of Library Thursdays being to project less of a 'club vibe' in favor of one of a more intimate house party (the Library room of The Huxley only holds 100 people, so the door list is deliberately kept very tight for the night).
A new studious way to quench a late night Thursday thirst to be sure.
