DUPONT CIRCLE -- Already open for
just under a week now,
The Gryphon was given a proper launch party on Tuesday night, as the upscale sports bar toasted the occasion with a private preview party for D.C. VIPs and members of the press.
Owners
David Karim,
Rich Vasey, and
Tony Hudgins presided over the celebration, as they greeted guests at the door and provided personal tours of the new 5,000-squarefoot gastropub.
And while the smell of freshly baked popcorn emanating from The Gryphon's own popcorn trolley easily seduced more than a handful of hungry attendees, it was still nevertheless
Executive Chef Joseph Evans' signature bar bites that proved the evening's highlight.
Much as he did at brother restaurant
Lost Society, Evans created a carefully curated list of dishes for the new Dupont Circle eatery that artfully blends the familiar (e.g., wings, sliders, salads) with the gourmet (e.g., braised short ribs & grits, Korean braised short rib tacos, crispy Scottish salmon).
Moreover, all of such savory and sweet (the desserts are all equally tempting) menu options are designed to pair well with The Gryphon's extensive beer and wine program.
Indeed, the only things that might draw a customer's focus away from the kitchen and bar are the 30+ flatscreen televisions scattered throughout the space.
With yesterday's launch party, The Gryphon is clearly a myth no more.
