The Gibson's Frank Jones stands surrounded by the judges after he won this year's "Critics' Choice" ARTINI award.
NORTHWEST -- Capping a nearly
month-long competition that drove lovers of both art and alcohol to eight of the District's best bars, the
Corcoran Gallery of Art's 2013 ARTINI celebration took over the insides of the venerable museum on Friday night.
The P.O.V team.
Zentan's Josh Berner won an honorable mention for "best garnish".
When the last glass had finally been drained, however, it was ultimately
The Gibson's
Frank Jones who walked away with the year's bragging rights to the prized "Critics' Choice" award, thanks to his drink which was inspired by Henri Regnault's
Head of a Moor.
Also returning
yet again to the "Fan Favorite" winners' circle was
Joe Ambrose from
P.O.V at the W, Washington D.C. Hotel, with his colorful cocktail inspired by
Pierre-Auguste Renoir's
View From Cap Martin of Monte Carlo.
Hosted annually by the Corcoran's 1869 Society of young professionals, ARTINI is equal parts party and cocktail competition, with all participating venues invited to create a unique libation inspired by one of the works of art that resides inside the institution’s fabled collection.
D.C.'s cocktail hounds have the opportunity to taste each artistically-inspired, custom cocktail during a series of ‘feature nights’ held prior to the ARTINI celebration itself, which helps drive the event's "Fan Favorite" popular vote.
New for 2013 was the creation of a special "Speakeasy" lounge for sold-out VIP ticket holders that provided a gourmet menu by
Chef Todd Gray's
Muse restaurant, in addition to a variety of premium tequila, whiskey, and vodka tastings.
We'll drink to that.
