GEORGETOWN -- World TeamTennis league champions the
Washington Kastles open their 2013 season at Kastles Stadium at The Wharf this evening, during a match that pits them against the New York Sportimes.
And to celebrate the start of the new season, the beloved D.C. team hosted an intimate kickoff party inside
The Graham Georgetown hotel's A.G.B. restaurant last night.
Fresh from practice, Kastles owner
Mark Ein, coach
Murphy Jensen, and players
Leander Paes,
Bobby Reynolds, and
Anastasia Rodionova dutifully stuck with bottled water during the celebration. But that didn't stop fans from indulging in the occasional spring specialty cocktail or two.
When the team takes to the court tonight, it will seek nothing less than to tie the longest winning streak in U.S. pro-sports history, with 33 consecutive wins.
Led by newly signed Kastle player
Martina Hingis, Washington's favorite racquet holders will begin tonight with a special ceremony honoring the team's 2012 WTT championship win. All guests in attendance at the sold-out match will also receive a commemorative 2012 champion shirt.
Refusing to lose provides fans with more than just bragging rights after all.
