NORTHWEST -- Last year, the self-described roots-rock/country group known as
Connor Christian & Southern Gothic (CCSG) made national headlines as one of
Billboard magazine's 'Artist on the Verge' for the year.
But last night, Washington had the band all to itself during a special early evening benefit concert hosted by various supporting members of America's music community, including the
Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA),
The Recording Academy,
SoundExchange,
SAG-AFTRA, the
Copyright Alliance,
musicFIRST, and the
National Music Publishers' Association.
Hosted inside the RIAA's private performance space overlooking the Washington Monument, the night served as a special benefit for Washington-based nonprofit
Bread for the City, which provides vulnerable city residents with a comprehensive set of basic services including food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services.
And in keeping with the charitable nature of the event, guests to Wednesday's performance were asked to bring a canned or boxed good with them as a voluntary donation.
In return, they were treated to a nearly hour-long set by CCSG, with the group playing mostly original material, and a top-shelf bourbon bar -- all in addition to the chance to mix and mingle with band members themselves both before and after the concert.
Sounds pretty good to us.
