'13 Go Bo Party A Philanthropic Festivus For Georgetown

GEORGETOWN -- Christmas came early to upper Georgetown on Friday evening, as the Johns Family welcomed hundreds of revelers onto its sprawling 29th Street estate for the ninth installment of the aptly labeled 'Go Bo' party.

An annual fundraiser inspired by Bo Johns' successful battle with cancer, the casual celebration raises funds for the Emergency Family Relief Fund at nearby Georgetown Hospital, where the then sixth grader was forced to stay for 87 days when receiving treatment.

Each year, the party boasts a different and unique theme, with last year's affair a nod to 'California Dreaming'.

For 2013, the Johns' property sported an intentionally out-of-season 'Festivus' look, with the pool house and grounds liberally decorated with everything from tinsel to stockings to inflatable snowmen.

Guests were quick to get in on the spirit of the event as well, with many sporting 'Tacky Christmas' sweaters, dresses, and hats (although costumes are always strictly optional at the casually minded benefit, which encourages guests to come as they are).

Returning to the stage inside the temporarily erected circus tent for another year was much beloved Motown and funk band The Wallers, who wasted no time in getting revelers dancing (the red and green JELL-O shots probably didn't hurt either).

A healthy mix of both Washington twenty-somethings and their parents, the Go Bo party is very much a hometown affair. Although everyone is certainly invited to join-in on the philanthropic fun, many guests are longtime Georgetown residents.

Indeed, one of the more widely recognized neighbors in attendance was Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans, who just kicked-off his second D.C. mayoral campaign in June.

Alas. while some of the younger revelers chose to get a little naughty on the dance floor, Evans couldn't have been nicer.
