GEORGETOWN -- Washington's love of tacos, guacamole, and ceviche (margaritas too) engulfed upper Georgetown yesterday evening, as
Richard Sandoval Restaurants formally celebrated the launch of the second imprint under its
El Centro D.F. banner with a boisterous grand opening party.
Co-hosted by
Washington Life Magazine, the guest list-only event drew a terrific mix of neighborhood residents and D.C. notables, including
Congressman Ed Royce and Fox News Chief White House Correspondent
Ed Henry, among many others.
Spread over two floors, El Centro Georgetown can accommodate 59 guests on its first level, 99 guests on its second, and 55 guests on its outdoor patio. The restaurant and bar occupy the same space on Wisconsin Avenue that used to house the once iconic Third Edition.
Drawing on the success of the original 14th Street location, Chef
Juan Romero (himself a D.C. area native) has created a menu that combines plenty of longtime favorites with a handful of new plates.
In addition to sampling the food, guests to Thursday's party were quick to also try some of the bar's house-infused tequilas, which are exclusive to Georgetown.
Whether it was said beverages or the second floor DJ who inspired the ensuing dance party, however, is still the subject of some controversy.
