GEORGETOWN -- Georgetown locals don't exactly need an excuse to don a particularly preppy ensemble for a night out on the town. Still, this weekend provided an added incentive for the neighborhood's classically minded (sartorially speaking).

To be sure, Saturday evening saw the D.C. relaunch party of Boston-based needlepoint designer Tucker Blair take over the depths of the normally private Smith Point restaurant and bar.

For at least one evening this summer, Washingtonians not on the unassuming venue's much talked about guest list were still granted access in the spirit of both charity and stylish camaraderie.

Beyond the colorful Tucker Blair belts on display at the entrance, the night's raffle also served as a powerful draw with proceeds earmarked for a duopoly of nonprofits, including Sailing Heals and Student Veterans.

Both organizations support the country's military veterans, with the former through various R&R healing initiatives and the latter via higher education support and advocacy programs.

And such charitable efforts dovetail nicely with the mindset of Tucker Blair's target customer: a modern consumer searching for the proper blend of old-world familiarity and modern style.

Because philanthropy is equally rooted in such timeless qualities.
