NORTHWEST -- Irony thy name is
Man Repeller. Or rather
Leandra Medine, as the blogger behind the extraordinarily popular fashion website goes by in real life.
Indeed, far from keeping anyone at bay, the stylish mastermind behind the whole 'man-repelling' fashion movement drew nearly a thousand fans, including a fair number of guys, to the
W Washington, D.C. hotel on Wednesday evening, for a giant cocktail party celebrating the debut of her first book.
Man Repeller: Seeking Love. Finding Overalls. is the young twentysomething's bid to extend her considerable voice to the printed page, as she recounts some of her most significant memories through the lens of her rather unique sartorial choices.
Medine's preference for silk parachute pants, drop-crotch shorts (yeah, we had to Google that too), and sequined blazers and her unapologetic willingness to playfully put it all online has built her a sizeable following (160,000+ on
Twitter alone) since she first launched her blog back in 2010.
And seemingly all of her fans were in attendance on Wednesday night, with even just the line to the elevator (the party was held on the hotel's prized P.O.V rooftop overlooking the monuments) requiring its own staging area.
Once upstairs, however, guests got to sip, mix, and mingle with some of D.C.'s most fashionably forward. Longtime Medine friend (and heiress to the Seagram fortune)
Hannah Bronfman had been enlisted to DJ the stylish soiree and both happily chatted with guests.
Beautified, the beauty appointment-booking mobile startup founded by Bronfman, had a series of stations standing at the ready to pamper attendees thanks to partnerships with D.C.-based
Nectar Skin Bar,
IPSA For Hair, and the W's own
Bliss Spa.
And
C. Wonder spotlighted the 'arm party' trend first launched by Man Repeller with a table practically toppling over from the weight of the bracelets and baubles above (one lucky person even walked away with a $250 C. Wonder gift card).
As if the sea of stylish guests wasn't enough, a half dozen or so
THE Artist Agency models were also present throughout, with each carefully styled in Man Repeller-inspired looks from Georgetown's posh
Hu's Wear boutique.
All in all, it was an awkwardly stylish, wildly fun, and definitively unique evening. Girl power never looked better.
