PENN QUARTER -- A celebrity spotting or two isn't at all uncommon at
Carmine's cavernous D.C. location adjacent to the Verizon Center.
The family style Italian restaurant, after all, regularly plays host to everyone from Supreme Court Justices to Members of Congress to stars of stage and screen (seriously, there's even a super secret VIP entrance).
Still, it's rare to see so many familiar faces descend upon the D.C. power spot at one time, as was the case on Saturday afternoon during a special 'Sip and See' celebration honoring local TV anchors
Alison Starling (ABC7) and
Angie Goff (NBC4).
Rooted in the Southern tradition of bringing together a new mother's friends to both toast the arrival of and meet the baby, the weekend's celebration drew some 75 of Washington's news breakers and news makers.
Saturday's 'Sip and See' was hosted by ABC7's
Rebecca Cooper and public relations wunderkind
Jill Collins. And while Carmine's signature oversized meatballs that were being served for lunch certainly received a warm welcome, it was nothing compared to the 'oohs' and 'aahs' inspired by
Baby Ava and
Baby Robert.
Nothing really newsworthy there, however. Cute babies always come out on top.
