ARLINGTON, Va. -- Washingtonians are invited to set sail on a new culinary adventure come Thursday, when Arlington's
Heavy Seas Alehouse is scheduled to open its doors to the general public for the first time.
The nearly 6,000-squarefoot beer-centric eatery will serve as the brand's second location and its first outside of Baltimore. The restaurant takes its name from the
Heavy Seas Beer craft brewery whose self-described mission is to 'make awesome beer and have fun being a swashbuckling Pyrate-type.'
Fortunately, the Arlington location has more in common with a luxury cruise liner than Red Beard's schooner and boasts a decidedly modern motif with subtle nautical accents.
The menu is purposefully simple in appearance (think steak, crab cakes, pretzels), but designed to still deliver 'bold and assertive' flavors (e.g., the popcorn is coated in a caramel/Old Bay mix) with a focus on fresh and seasonal ingredients.
In addition to plenty of both seasonal and year-round staple beers, some half-dozen beer cocktails are also available to order.
And Friday night, a handful of lucky D.C. notables (e.g., ABC7 anchor
Leon Harris, etc.) and nearby residents had a chance to preview Heavy Seas during a private VIP grand opening celebration. The real plundering begins on Thursday, however, when the alehouse opens its doors to the general public for lunch.
ARRRRGGGHHHH!
