SOUTHWEST -- The passing of each lunar cycle always heralds the arrival of a series of much welcomed new changes for the luxurious
Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C.
Still, the beginning of the 'Year of the Horse' was particularly memorable for the posh Southwest property as it also served to highlight the hotel's 10th anniversary.
And General Manager
Adriaan Radder and his award-winning team of culinary and hospitality experts wasted no time in pulling out all the stops in feting such an auspicious occasion.
Naturally, the Mandarin's many culinary talents were first and foremost on display, including a whirlwind of dishes prepared by
CityZen Executive Chef (and James Beard Award-winner)
Eric Ziebold and
Muze's
Didier Pouzier and
Mark McDonnell, Executive Chef and Chef de Cuisine, respectively.
But beyond the opportunity to nosh on
Grilled Shoat Belly w/ Spring Radishes, Sorrel Vinaigrette, and Smoked Trout Roe or
Edamame Falafel Sliders w/ Asian Slaw and Miso Buns, guests also had the rare opportunity to chat and interact with virtually all of the hotel's senior staff.
Between bites, of course, everyone took advantage of the crisp spring weather to stroll and admire the lush grounds of the hotel, which borders the District's famed Tidal Basin.
The budding cherry blossoms that encircle the property only further added to the evening's exuberance by providing a beautiful backdrop, which exemplified the storied bridge between Eastern and Western cultures fashioned by the entire Mandarin hotel group.
And those who wandered inside as the night grew longer were further treated to a series of delightful decorative accents created by
Events by Andre Wells -- one of the many prominent event planning firms in attendance who often call the hotel home.
A cherished celebration to be sure.
