NORTHWEST -- What it lacked in paparazzi, Wednesday's night's D.C. premiere screening of "The Last Ship" more than made-up for with real service members from the United States Navy.
And that was just how it should be, as the red carpeted private event was jointly hosted by
TNT and the Department of the Navy to celebrate the debut of the television network's newest original series.
Filmed on an active Navy destroyer (hence the private/public collaboration), "The Last Ship" comes to TNT from blockbuster filmmaker
Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company and its partners
Brad Fuller and
Andrew Form, along with showrunner
Hank Steinberg.
And while the "Transformers" director wasn't in attendance at the
Newseum yesterday evening, most of the series' cast and producers were, including stars
Eric Dane (
Grey's Anatomy),
Rhona Mitra (
Strike Back), and
Adam Baldwin (
Firefly,
Chuck), among others.
Based on the popular novel of the same name by author
William Brinkley, the story behind "The Last Ship" focuses on the crew of a lone surviving naval destroyer as they struggle to find a cure to a virus that has wiped out 80% of the world's population.
Season one of the series debuts on TNT later this month at 9:00pm, on Sunday, June 22nd.
