(R-L) Chef Fabio Trabocchi and Maria Trabocchi's top rated Fiola restaurant celebrated its third anniversary, with an intimate patio party.
PENN QUARTER -- From afar, the crowd mingling on
Fiola da Fabio Trabocchi's lush patio on Wednesday evening appeared to be nothing out of the ordinary for the top-rated Italian restaurant.
But the guests enjoying tall glasses of rose prosecco and toasting with their frozen Negroni cocktails were there for a special occasion, as Fiola celebrated its third anniversary in Washington with an intimate party for its most loyal patrons.
And there was much to celebrate to be sure. Indeed, mere hours prior, Fiola's sister restaurant,
Fiola Mare, had received a
glowing first review from hard-to-please
Washington Post critic
Tom Sietsema.
Chef Trabocchi's Pennsylvania flagship has, of course, spawned not one, but two companion eateries. Georgetown's Fiola Mare pairs gourmet Adriatic fare with stunning views of the Potomac, while the more casual
Casa Luca is focused on traditional recipes from the Marche region of Italy.
While the menus might be different throughout their venues, owners
Fabio and Maria Trabocchi's attention to detail remains the same, as evidenced by the earpieces sported by all members of their impecably styled staff.
Even on a night like Wednesday, when they should be relaxing and celebrating with friends and guests, the husband and wife team were still quick to lend a hand to help plate some of the
Porchetta Ascolana with salsa verde and pickled vegatables being served or smile for a 'selfie' with the invited powerset.
As the saying goes, the third time's the charm. Happy birthday Fiola!
