NORTHWEST -- Stars and stripes abounded at the world premiere screening for
National Geographic Channel's new documentary, 'American War Generals', which premieres on the network Sunday, September 14th, at 8:00p.m. ET/PT.
The two-hour special television event takes an unprecedented look at the last 50 or so years of military history, from the Vietnam War to the War on Terror, as recounted through the eyes of 11 of the United States' leading generals.
Five of those military leaders served as the guests of honor yesterday evening, during the patriotically-minded banner premiere party which saw the
Andrew C. Mellon Auditorium bathed in soothing shades of red, white, and blue.
Gen. David Petraeus,
Gen. Wesley Clark,
Lt. Gen. Karl Eikenberry,
Gen. Barry McCaffrey, and
Gen. H.R. McMaster all enthusiastically walked the red carpet for the occasion, along with National Geographic Channel CEO
Courteney Monroe and documentary Executive Producers
Peter Bergen and
Tresha Mable.
Also helping pack the building's cavernous great hall were representatives from 14 different veteran and military partner organizations, including
Blue Star Families,
Boulder Crest Retreat, and
Got Your 6, amongst others.
VIPs, including service members, invited members of Congress, and media types, were provided special access to a reception on the Mellon's outdoor, second floor terrace, although most (including the honorees) chose to mingle amongst the guests on the main floor.
Last night's screening was co-hosted by media partners
Capitol File Magazine and
USA Today and both news organizations had top editorial staffers in attendance.
A remarkable occasion truly worth saluting.
