NORTHWEST -- It wasn't enough for recently opened
Pinea to win critical culinary praise from the city's foodies (the
Washington Post called the restaurant a 'fresh reason to check into the W').
Rather, the recently opened fine dining destination inside the
posh 15th Street hotel wanted to also make a splash amongst the curators of the District's budding creative community, in keeping with the property's goal of attracting a diverse crowd of influencers.
So the already colorful walls of
Chef Barry Koslow's Pinea found themselves transformed on Friday night, into a bright new canvas for world renowned street artist
Gaia.
The New York City native and
Maryland Institute College of Art-educated muralist, who also just happened to be named to
Forbes's '2015 30 Under 30' list, had been specially enlisted for the occasion, which doubled as a semi-official launch party for the restaurant.
As guests mixed and mingled underneath the watchful eyes of artistically painted man and beast alike, their palettes were equally entertained by a seemingly endless parade of Mediterranean-inspired platters from the kitchen.
Award-winning Baltimore-based recording artist
Dan Deacon kept the crowd further buzzing long past its scheduled 10:00p.m. end time, with his signature mix of electronic beats.
In fact, it's probably safe to say that the evening's creativity might have also extended beyond Pinea's walls to the dance floor.
