FRANKLIN SQUARE -- Washington's infamous K Street corridor has a new power spot in which to transact during lunch, dinner, and, yes, happy hour too, with today's official grand opening of
Pennsylvania 6.
Billed as equal parts American bistro and London supper club, the city's newest culinary import (which already boasts outposts in both Philadelphia and New York City) brings a stylish 265-seat space to the heart of downtown.
The Franklin Square location serves refined, yet still approachable, contemporary cuisine, such as dry aged steaks, lobster rolls, yellowfin tuna tartare, and even Burgundy Snails with bone marrow butter crust.
A marble-topped raw bar also draws focus at Pennsylvania 6, which should come as no surprise given its reputation as a resource for some of D.C.'s freshest seafood.
Homage is paid to the District's much touted love affair with all things wine-related, as the restaurant hosts one of the best local sommeliers. And a diverse selection of regional and international brews flows freely at the chic bar.
Capitol File Magazine welcomed over a hundred of the city's movers-and-shakers to Penn 6 on Tuesday evening, for a celebratory reveal party that showcased its full culinary appeal.
Lobbyists and lawyers mixed with government officials and journalists during the blowout bash, as guests noshed on freshly shucked oysters and alternated between craft cocktails and long red/white wine bottle pours.
Pennsylvania 6's interior was conceived by the creative team at design and fabrication firm
Swatchroom. Founders
Maggie O'Neill and
Warren Weixler and their team are the imaginative wunderkinds behind many of Washington's most popular bars and eateries.
Pennsylvania 6 is just the latest feather in their cap.
