NORTHWEST -- The philanthropic baton was passed to the District's young professionals on Friday evening, for the 2016
SOME (So Others Might Eat) Jr. Gala.
An annual winter tradition among Washington's twenty and thirty-somethings, the black tie optional evening raised more than $315,000 for SOME's affordable living initiatives.
There are approximately 1,131 homeless
families living in D.C., including over 2,000 children. SOME's mission is to provide these disadvantaged residents with affordable housing and related supportive services in order to empower them to live increasingly independent and productive lives.
Children, for example, living in SOME apartments attend after school enrichment programs and adults work with program staff to repair their credit, save money, enroll in job training, and find living wage employment.
The SOME Jr. Gala, which serves as a younger companion to the organization's annual SOME Gala, was created 13 years ago to support SOME's programs and the nonprofit's work in the community.
Friday's event was co-chaired by
Patrick Brennan,
Alden Denny, and
Zack Dugan and boasted numerous corporate benefactors, including 'Diamond Heart' sponsors Latham & Watkins, LLP.
Guests were treated to cocktails and hors d'oeuvres before taking to the dance floor, where the Blue Tips Rhythm Revue kept the party going until the stroke of midnight.
