NORTHWEST -- One of the magazine's most popular feature stories every year, the Washingtonian's "best dressed" list always manages to create a buzz within the city's fashion circles when it is published at the end of summer.

This year's pictorial followed the theme of a "Starry Starry Night" with the publication's photographer capturing the year's honorees as they hit the town for a fashionable night out. Shot entirely on location at the plush W Washington D.C., the photographs were unique in that they captured the evening as it unfolded, from a 9 p.m. arrival with blogger and luxury consultant Aureta Thomollari to a 4 a.m. last call with the Corcoran Gallery of Art's Kristin Guiter.

Last night, Washingtonian celebrated its September 2010 issue with a blowout bash at The Phillips Collection. Upon entering the museum's much-admired walls, guests were treated to complimentary cocktails courtesy of the W Washington D.C.'s gorgeous rooftop lounge and terrace, P.O.V.

Mixing Madagascar vanilla bean-infused Cruzan rum with fresh pineapple juice, the hotel's mixologists kept the attendees' drinks full as they mingled and admired the pageantry of fall fashion on display Wednesday night.

With many of DC's fashion forward residents in attendance, a sea of slinky dresses, glittering jewels and watches, tailored suits, and skinny ties flowed through the museum's lobby and into its courtyard throughout the evening.

As guests nibbled on small bites of sambuca-cured salmon, Washingtonian President and Publisher Catherine Merrill Williams and Fashion Editor Jill Hudson Neal acknowledged all of the issue's honorees and presented them with "swag bags" from Saks Fifth Avenue of Tysons Galleria, posters of their respective photographs, and bottles of champagne.

The Washingtonian's best dressed list for 2010 featured:

  • Aureta Thomollari: Blogger and President of D&A Luxury Consulting

  • Michael Kahn: Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Theatre Company

  • Kay Kendall: Advisory Board Member of The Washington Ballet
